Age-Related Hearing Loss is a progressive degenerative disorder that impacts much more than just your hearing! With Age-Related Hearing Loss there is a significant loss of the quantitative number of nerves connecting the ear and the brain, as well as a reduction in the ability of the remaining nerves to properly simulate the brain (making conversation more difficult to follow and understand).
Treating your hearing loss is essential to your ear and brain health. You need to optimize and improve your ability to hear and your brain’s ability to think and communicate. These are essential to enjoying life and living life to the fullest. Often patients visit a provider and are told in a matter-of-fact manner they have a health issue and they have to live with it. That is NOT the case with hearing loss and brain health. TREATING you hearing loss will help to keep your ears and brain sharp and healthy.
Age-Related Hearing Loss is a silent disorder that occurs gradually and slowly overtime – without most people really noticing, or accepting, that it is happening to them. The most important factor for successful treatment outcomes of all medical conditions is: “Catch it Early and Treat it Early!” Treating your hearing loss is essential to your ear and brain health. You need to optimize and improve your ability to hear and your brain’s ability to think and communicate.
The biggest reason people are resistant to hearing aids is they have a very bad peer experience. Meaning none of their friends love their hearing aids. My patients tell me they have three friends with hearing aids. One returned the aids, one does not wear them and the third does not hear better when wearing the aids. It is not wonder most of my patients tell me they do not want hearing aids.
“My hearing impairment caused people to think I was really shy. People thought I was introverted, but I'm really not! I was just afraid of saying the wrong thing, so I stayed out of the conversation. Now with the help of Dr. Syms, I hear better and I'm all in again!”
Linda Gotcher / Phoenix, AZ
